Pleasantly Surprised – Don’t Always Believe the Negative Reviews!
After reading some of the negative reviews, I was a bit put off about going here, but it was the only chip shop near our campsite (other than the ones in town), and we didn’t feel like walking all that way. So we thought, “What the heck, let’s give it a go and see what happens.”
First off, the dogs outside were absolutely adorable and so well-behaved. One of the previous reviews complaining about the dogs honestly sounded like it came from someone who just isn’t a dog lover. The comment about a child tripping over the dog? Well, maybe the child should’ve been watching where they were going — after all, it’s the dogs' home, not ours.
The young person who served us was super friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. We asked about paying by card and she was really accommodating.
As for the food — I had chips, a steak pie, and curry sauce, and it was bloody lovely. My friend had fish and chips and said hers was great too.
I do wonder if some of the bad reviews were more about the dogs or atmosphere than the actual food, which is a shame, because our meals were spot on.
Also worth noting: I had fish and chips in St Ives recently that cost me £14, and honestly, the food at this place was so much better. And no, I’m not saying the St Ives food was bad because of the price — I know it’s costly down here — but this little spot really surprised us in a good way.- Wait time

I’ve heard the lobster is second to none too, so that’s next on my list. You can tell this is a family-owned business run with pride and passion – the service is warm, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the quality speaks for itself.
An absolute gem of a place and completely worthy of recognition. Top drawer.Truly epic fish and chips! Great service and cooked fresh 👍 I have to say this place needs an award 🏅needs recognition for the quality 👏👏

Stopped here on the way back to our caravan and the food didn't disappoint. The cod was delicious, chips were tasty and plentiful, just good quality no nonsense fish and chips. When at the seaside, what more could you want.

Got some great fish and chips from here, proper job! If you're staying in Croyde, Woolacombe or Putsborough it's well worth the 5 mins extra to get good portions and quality fish and chips. We drove back down to the cliff top bench at Woolacombe and watched the sun set over Lundy Island, highly recommend.

Delicious. Made to order so fresh and hot. Chips fluffy and tasty, cod lightly battered and moist, both excellent. Little bit of a wait because it's so popular but you can wait with a pint from the pub next door. Beautiful little village. Highly recommended.

Ordered fish and chips takeaway after drinking at the Ship Aground. It was the best fish & chips I’ve ever had & I’ve eaten a lot. We had to walk 20 mins back to the camp site before we could eat it & it was still hot. Staff were friendly & lovely location in Mortehoe.
